The words identity and individuality is alive only because of humans who embrace it with the right attitude. It doesn’t matter who or where or even what you are, all that is vital is that you must be able to never let go of your charm or confidence just to please others.
This attitude occurs when you are trying to work through things that are not worth it or just that you are a person of low self-esteem and confidence. Remember changing yourself for every person you meet just because you are afraid of losing them in the short run is going to make you lose yourself in the long run.
There lived a baby skunk in the village with his family of skunks and it’s a common attribute for a skunk to have a bad odor, but it’s natural. The baby skunk was happily leaving his house one morning in the forest to go meet his other animal friends. The other animals were Zebra, Fox, Platypus, Sloth and much more and the skunk was the only one specie there among his family. They play every day like other animals do one fine day the other animals stopped coming near the skunk and they did not include him in their games.
The baby skunk cried and ran away to his house and his mother comforted him and asked him to go back the next day and be nice to his animal friends. The skunk listened to his mother and slept through the night excited for the next morning. He went to play with them as instructed by their mother, the animals disliked his presence and the skunk felt neglected again.
He asked them why are you not being friends with me or involving me in your games. The animal friends replied saying you stink badly and we don’t like it. The skunk was very upset and that’s when an owl appeared in front of him asking why was he upset? The skunk replied saying my friends are ignoring me because they think I stink, the owl leaped in front and took a deep sniff at him and said well you actually do. The owl said don’t worry I shall help you if you offer me three gold coins, the skunk asked the Owl how will you help me?
The Owl replied saying I know an old wizard who lives across this lake and he shall make you smell like roses with his magic spell and all you need to do is offer me money and follow the path. The skunk was very happy on listening to the owl offer him this help, he immediately took three gold coins and placed it in the Owl’s hand and thanked the Owl.
The skunk embarked on his journey to the wizard’s house and he crossed the lake without any problem. He was able to see a house in the shape of a wizards’ hat and he decided that this should be the house where the old wizard lives. The skunk gathered up courage and knocked the door and the wizard opened it and asked the skunk in his old voice what do you want little skunk.
The skunk said its problems and told the wizard the owl said you will help me and my friends will finally become close to me again. He asked the skunk to pay some money the skunk did it and the old wizard took out his magic wand and uttered the magic spells.
After few minutes the skunk was enthralled as he was able to smell himself with the smell of roses. He was very happy and thanked the wizard for his help and returned back to his friends who were very surprised to see how the skunk smelled and they invited him to play along.
He played and returned home all happy and his mom asked him why was he so happy and he said the whole story and his mother was very upset. She scolded the skunk and asked him to take her to this wizard. The son and the mother went and again knocked the Wizards’ door, he opened and was surprised to see him again, he asked the little skunk what you want now.
The wizard saw his mother angry and she told him to make him proper again by hitting him on his head with her stick. The wizard uttered the spell again and changed him to stink like a skunk again. The skunk’s mother warned the wizard and took her son home and explained to her son that we stink naturally and we will remain so. It is not healthy to change yourself for others. The baby skunk apologized to his mother and went the next day to his friends and told them I won’t change myself. You don’t have to be my friends I have my family to hold on and I want to be myself.
His friends felt ashamed of their actions and apologized to the skunk and they got together and played in unity and lived happily.
Moral of the story: Never change yourself for others until you think what you are doing is wrong.
