In the 21st century, you would not find anyone who does not have a Facebook or Instagram account. Not only children but adults too, interact with others through social media. All money transactions also take place through net banking, credit/debit card etc. So, it is very important for us to take care of our safety on the internet and to maintain proper internet security.
There are so many people all over the internet who are ready to hack through our systems and sell off personal data to third parties. Others are there to encrypt data and steal our hard-earned money. It is really essential to be careful while we are on the internet so that no one can take our undue advantage.
Here are 5 ways you can ensure your internet security on the internet:
1) Online Money Transactions
Always do online money transactions in websites that you are familiar with. Never do online transactions on websites that you have no information about. While inputting your CVV, never save it in any way using Google’s save password method. Try to not save any credentials on the internet – each time you do online transactions, use your credentials. Change all your internet banking passwords every 3 months and never disclose your password to anyone, not even your best friend.
2) Social Media Passwords
You should change your passwords of all your social media handles at least once a year. Never login into any of your accounts using your friend’s laptop or mobile. Avoid going to cyber café and check your Facebook accounts as you never know who might encrypt your data and put you in some serious trouble. Social media passwords should be complicated and not something easily guessable. Use of symbols is mandatory.

3) Emails
Just like social medias, log into your email account only from your personal computers. If you can, use a 2-way login protocol for all your emails. If you see any unknown emails, be very careful. Do not try to download any unfamiliar attachments with emails. Try to put any useless emails to your spam folder. Do not have more than 3 emails otherwise, it becomes difficult to manage. The lesser, the better.
4) Friendship over the internet
In this modern era, where everyone tries to take advantage of you in order to gain something for themselves, it’s easier to target innocents as the internet helps criminals to wear a mask. It is advisable to not start conversations with strangers. Some of them might mold you to get your personal information. These situations arise especially when the internet user is really naive. Thus, it is really important to use common sense while you are on the internet.
5) Different passwords for different accounts
Most of the adults of today use the same password for everything as they say it’s hard to remember. Never make that mistake. Always use different passwords for different accounts. It will help to secure your life on the internet. If one of your gets taken down, your other accounts will stay safe and you can act accordingly to retrieve your hacked account.
